We had just about got to grips with the medication for her Cushing's disease, but she started drinking vast amounts of water again. At first it was thought the Cushing's disease had got out of control, but the blood test showed levels about normal. Yesterday she had a scan and her liver was found to be riddled with cancer . An operation was out of the question. As long as 20% of her liver is still functioning she will keep going , so we hope the additional medication will help her continue enjoying life. Poor old girl not the sort of morning for her walk with a bald tummy.

Thanks everyone for all the good wishes for Katie. At the moment she is living a normal life, eager for walks and food !!
Its a bit like living with a time bomb. Our Vet says there is no way to predict how long her liver will last. So we let her continue enjoying life. She has a diet of pasta, rice , fish and chicken with medication to support her liver.

Pat and Syd,

We are so pleased to hear that Katie is still enjoying her walks and food.
Sadly we know that awful feeling and wonder what will happen next....Cobi was given 5 months if we didn't go down the 'chemo route', that was over 7 months ago. Like Katie she still looks forward to her walks and food, a bad side effect of these tablets is a frequent 'upset tummy', this doesn't slow her down or stop her from eating horrible things, but on several occasions I've had to stop her tablets which is upsetting as I know that she must have them.

All we can hope for is that our vet's can tailor the treatments so our beautiful dogs can remain as healthy and pain free for as long as possible.

Its sad to report that this morning Katie was put to sleep. Yesterday she went for her morning and afternoon walks.
Yes, she was slowing down but still wanted to go out. She had her evening meal , but last night became ill .The Vet warned us that there would be a sudden failure of her liver and it would be quick.
She was with us three and a half Years and of course had the Cushings disease but that had become a complication.
When we had that under control she had lost well over a stone in weight. Unfortunately the ascites caused by the cancer
affected her weight again. Rest in peace little girl , sadly missed.
