Yesterdays walk

Post by lynn wise »

Yesterday, I walked along the canal, a beautiful day to enjoy what spring had on offer. Part way along on the journey home, I met a lady with 3 teenage girls and a Yorkie and Jack Russell. When I approached from behind, the little Yorkie started running at us barking, snapping and growling. Our 2 just carried on regardless, eyes front, ignoring the little blighter. When it decided to have a snap at my legs I'm afraid to say I saw red. " Shut up you little Yapper, you aren't big enough for a main course for him" ( Woody that is ) The lady then decided she had better make a token gesture and called him back, the usual feeble effort of " come here tootsie wootsie !!!! At no time did she decide to put either dog on leads, which ours were, so I was feeling quite put out after minutes of their onslaught.
The Jack Russell was definately a reason to have dogs neutered, my goodness, he could bonk for Britain. Poor Woody, he kept looking up to tell me what was going on, me saying " NO, leave it " Yet again, no lead appeared. One of the girls eventually ran up and said sorry, carried him back to the group, then put him down upon which he high tailed it back to Woody, This scenario carried on for some distance, I just carried on walking with ours on leads. Eventually I thought what the heck, let them both off, Willow just ran in front out of the way. Woody stayed close, the J/R then came back for another try, Woody having had enough turned round and gave him a right ear bashing, not to bite, just to warn him off. Hurray, the group swung into action at last and retrieved their dogs, I think it was obvious I wasn't best pleased. :2011:
Walk then resumed to a lovely jaunt.
We walk the canal at some point each day, the dogs know the routine, anyone approaching they come back to me, sit into the side whilst people, bikes etc. pass by. The number of users that tell me "what good dogs, aren't they well behaved" is great, I feel that I must have done something right. Just wish other folk would sometimes be so considerate. There, my moan for the day. :1945:

And what a moan!! Brilliant, superb!! :1951: I still believe dogs should be on a lead in confined spaces such as tow paths etc., open fields are different, however one thing about tiny yappers they can be easily launched preferably in the direction of the drink :thumbleft

Of course Willow & Woody were impeccably behaved they are Goldens and have manners :love5

Ps.,"nice one Woods" :1945:

Had a good laugh today at lunchtime walk. Met a lady and her Springer GERRY. Stood talking when a youngish chap came by with his black Grey Hound. " will take a wide berth, he's a bit grumpy", "well, he's met his match with me" says I, "and MY bite is worse than my bark". Said this without putting the brain into gear, we all just fell about laughing. Poor chap, I don't think he was offended, he went up the road chuckling. :2074:

If Emily and Snowy take after their Dad, they will be kind, funny and such good company :love4

Your two beauties sound so well trained, just what we are aiming for with Harvey. Right now when off the lead he mostly comes back nicely, but occasionally if he gets too excited when he sees other dogs he becomes deaf. At that point he is straight back on the lead.
Some people are oblivious to the irritation or even danger their dogs cause.

I know Lynn its so annoying when people just let there dogs run rings round you with them off the lead.I get pulled all over the place by Monty if this happens he loves other dogs but in this scenario he gets worried. You know me and my neck pain well its agony -so thoughtless eh
