CHARLIE
This is a first for me. Charlie is from Greece and he was abandoned outside a shelter in Athens. I was contacted by a supporter in this Country to see if I could help so you can guess the answer. So you will never believe the wheels that were set in motion. He had to have blood tests and all the vaccinations and the passport. All this has takn many weeks. He was so hot they had bought childrens paddling pools and I was sent pictures of him lying in one panting. He looked about 8 or 9 .
Then the network of helpers were arranged to transport him and others( not Goldens) to this Country where homes or Rescues had been sorted out. A lady in Holland was sorting this out. He was transported accros Europe and landed in Dover where he stayed in kennels for a night. Then a lady from Portsmouth picked him and two others up and fetched him to me. The others ( a spaniel and a puppy terrier) one was going to Northallerton and the other to Sheffield. What wonderful dedicated people they all are.
So Charlie is here. what a big handsome even tempered placid dog he is and now I look at his paperwork and he is only 3. When I thought he was older I thought he mnight be one for me but he is too young for this old household. He looks a lot better then he did from the first pictures. obviously because he has been looked after properly for these last 2 months.

Re: CHARLIE
Have followed this story with a heavy heart knowing what Charlie had to go through. Now he is here and looking forward to a life of love and care. I applaud all the people that have been involved with this mercy mission across Europe, what wonderful caring souls they all must be to undertake such a trek. With all the money worries in Greece, I feel sure that their sanctuarys must be overflowing with discarded animals, they weren't doing well before all this happened. Not known for being good animal people the Greeks, their failings are widely known. Thankfully there are people like these that have pulled out all the stops for 3 dogs to come over here. Well Done to them. Also to Jan, thankyou for saying "bring him here", his future looks all the better for that. Now you are really getting known!!! Watch this space, who knows where this will lead. The Rescue network grows forever further.
Thankyou for sharing this story with everyone, we all know individually what you have done for us, but this shows the bigger picture of what can happen. I bow in homage.

A huge congratulations to every one involved in getting Charlie into the safe hands of Jan, cant even imagine how much time and effort this has taken. Jan your fame must be spreading world wide. have told people about you and our dogs when we have been on holiday in Rhodes, but never been to Athens,so its nothing to do with me Lol.I do hope you can find him a loving home after all he has been through . Im sure he will love our climate and our rain compaired to the heat he had in greece.
