Gemma

We sadly lost our goldie Gemma in January this year.

She has left such a big whole in our hearts and at the moment feel we will never get over her. She was the most lovable, loyal retriever anyone could wish for. She did not have a malicious bone in her body. She was so gentle with everyone, especially our grandchildren who she adored.

I cant really say that I ever heard her growl. If you had gone out, when you got home, she would come running up to you with something in her mouth, it was the nearest toy she could find and believe me she had a lot of them. I think she had a bigger toy box than my children had. Every Christmas she used to enjoy one of my children opening her presents, she could always smell which ones were hers and got really excited.

I think she enjoyed Christmas's as much as we did. She amazed us how she coped sometimes as when she was 4yrs old she got cancer in the mouth and had to have half her bottom jaw removed. We wondered if she would still be able to swim okay, play with her toys etc. as well as coping with her food. We did not have to worry, nothing stopped her, she just got on with loving life. I dont think there are enough words to express how much we loved her and what love she gave to us.

It just does'nt seem the same anymore going for a walk, especially if it is near water, as we remember just how much Gemma loved it. She had us in hysterics on many occasions with the state she got in. Her best friend was the little westie in the picture who has just sadly died as well. They were virtually the same ages and so grew up together. You could feel the love they had for each other as you saw them playing together.

At the moment we cant talk about her without getting tearful as the pain in our hearts just wont heal but hopefully one day we may be lucky enough to find another golden retriever that we can give our love to.

Jill

This is in memory of our beautiful beautiful Jilly. We adopted her through retriever rescue from the RSPCA in 2001, when she was about 7 years old. Sadly, she had to be put to sleep a few days ago, at the age of 14 because of arthritis and other problems. We are so glad and lucky to have had her in our lives.

She was a character at times, stealing the bread off the worktops and the sausages off the grill, but also ever-loving. There is now a big void in our lives, which at the moment feels like it will never be filled. God bless Jilly, we will love you forever.
