To all who have lost a beloved Golden.

Post by Samsmum »

There seem to be quite a number of people who recently lost their beloved Golden.
I came across this little poem recently, and whilst it is not dedicated specifically to pets, I still think the poem is lovely and the sentiment is good. I would like to dedicate it to all who are grieving for their beautiful Golden friend, companion and member of the family.

MISS ME - BUT LET ME GO!
When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set on me,
I want no rites in a glook-filled room -
Why cry for a soul set free.
Miss me a little but not too long
And not with your head bowed low;
Remember the love that we once shared.
Miss me - but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all a part of a masterful plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart -
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me - but let me go!

I do hope this may help you all in your sorrow, and send my love and sympathy - Samsmum (Joyce)

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Hello Lenny.
Yes, I agree your poem is probably more appropriate than mine, but it was given to me by a friend when my Dad died, and it has been a source of comfort to me in the loss of loved ones, both human and canine, and I just thought someone else might have derived the same comfort from it. I appreciate your view.
Best wishes - Samsmum (Joyce).

I do apologise sam's mum , I only meant I should have posted mine in the poem section, and not in the place I did originally. Im so glad yours give you some comfort when you lost your dad. I honestly did not think mine was more appropriate than yours, just we seem to have got our lines crossed somewhere. Please once again accept my apologies. :love3

Hi Lenny!
Just a case of crossed wires - must admit mine get more than crossed at times - more like a bundle of knitting!!
Best wishes to you all - Joyce.

I found quite a nice poem whilst having a quick looksy round, made my eyes water!

Last Night

I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today; your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said, "It's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be near you every day.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over...I smile and watch you yawning
And say, "Goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.

How lovely I miss all of my lost Goldens so much.Briar,Bosun,Holly and Sam.This is a lovely poem thank you for sharing it with me.
You know something strange is happening with our old lady Ellie(13)She lies on the lawn in the sun,the same place and at the same strange angle every day.She has been doing this for some years now.I often wonder if she is keeping someone company.Perhaps one of our old friends. Her old mate Holly was put to sleep just a few feet away one sunny day.I am very grounded but it does make me wonder.
love to all

Miss me but let me go,I know this one it was one that was on the Hymn sheet when my Dad died four years ago January 4th. My good friend Julie from st annes also sent me another both I have had laminated so I can keep them from being spoiled. Julie sent me one called "A letter from Heaven". I must look it out and put it on here. Its quite long but is comforting and is appropiate to man or beast. Thanks for sharing these it does help.

Having just returned from Cornwall, I have been catching up with all the posts.
That last poem really made me weepy, beautiful words, that I'm sure all our dear departed Goldens will be saying to us all.
Thankyou. Tissues at the ready. :love4

just been reading the poems. thanks everyone, had to get the tissues out.
hubby just switched off marley and me before it gets to the sad part which hasn't helped either.
seriously though, the poems are really lovely and seem to be able to sum up just how we all feel over the loss of our beloved pets.
