Anybody experienced the same.

Post by superjazz »

As you know we lost Candy a week last Saturday. We now have Jazz hardly eating anything. He has been suffering with a bad leg which is responding to treatment , but with having to rest it, he is not getting that much exercise.
Candy would frequently give his ears a wash ,as she seemed to know his ears suffered some superficial irritation
and also because she was blind would often sit on him by mistake. He has looked for her , and we wonder if the competition for food is missing. Retrievers are very intuitive and we also wonder if he is sensing our sadness at her loss.
Has anyone had the same experience ?
Pat , Syd, Jazz.

Dear Pat and Syd, if Jazz has an ear infection (generally due to yeast) that can put him off his food but of course he could also be missing Candy, friends of ours had a similar situation, it may help to have a chat with your vet.

JB had terrible times with his ears; he had to have drops squirted in them every few weeks during the warm months as well as tablets and have them washed out poor lad :2005:Sorry I can't be of more help, best wishes, Steve.

So sorry to hear about Jazz, he is missing his Candy that's for sure. Can't help you on this one Syd, I think a word with the Vet or Jan would be a good idea. Jan especially, as she's had the experience over the years.
Keep well Pat and Syd, and hugs to Jazz.

Thanks Steve , Lynn for your reply. Yes he has been to the Vet and nothing is physically wrong with him. Heart is good all organs in the right place, there is abit of fluid on his chest but nothing to worry about. The ideas about his problem have come from talking to the Vet.
With regard to JB and his ears, Jazz had the same problem until Candy arrived and started washing them.
Some how they know when things are not right. When Candy became ill he would stand near her and have a good sniff. Then when she was put to sleep he went and stood by her.
Thanks again
Pat, Syd, Jazz

Sad time for you all, and it sounds as though Jazz is missing Candy and her ministrations.
Sorry, but no helpful advice to give, but wishing you all the best and hoping that the problems clear up.

It is with very great sadness to report that Jazz was put to sleep yesterday. Having lost Candy three weeks ago it is devastating.
He was not eating and unfortunately picked up an infection, and what with his bad leg he gave up.
As they were both 14 they propped each other up.
We had twelve wonderful Years wih him , such a great character . Thanks Jan.
Big Jazz & Candy will never be forgotten.

Dear Pat and Syd,

So very sorry to hear such sad news. Poor Jazz, he and Candy had such a strong bond between them and losing her must have broken his heart and his will to go on. They have had a wonderful life with you both and you will have many happy memories.

We will remember them with much fondness.

Thinking of you in this saddest of times.

Dear Pat & Sid, we are so sorry to hear, that you have now lost Jazz we cannot comprehend the sadness you must be feeling, to lose two wonderful dogs in such a short time. I do hope that they have been re-united in rainbow bridge, and they are playing happily together free from pain.We are with you at this awful time and hope remembering the good times you shared with Candy and Jazz bring some happiness back into your lives .Love Lenny Celia Emily and Snowy. :cry3: :love2

Dear Pat and Sid,
What a terrible blow to lose Jazz so soon after losing Candy. Jazz must have felt he couldn't go on without Candy, and he lost the will to carry on. So terribly sorry to hear your bad news, but our thoughts are with you, and we hope that your happy memories of two lovely dogs will sustain you through this difficult time.
We send our sympathy and love - Joyce, David and Sam. :cry3:
