Ginnie appears to have what Jazz had in May

Only just read some of the posts as we have popped home twice this week, (our last caravanning holiday ends on 25th, as Les has run out of annual leave)
Ginnie has given us great cause for concern and has been to see the vet twice this week.... she collapsed after spending a penny and tuppence ouside our caravan at 1.15am this morning, she couldn't stand up for what seemed hours, so we sat in the awning with a duvet each until she wanted to stand, then she slept on Les' side of the bed (we didn't sleep a wink) and it happened again at 8am as we were getting ready to come home. The vet says that it is vestibular disease.... same as Jazz had and it can get worse before it gets better, BUT it may never occur again, 4 Cerenina and a week of Noroclav tablets have been prescribed with her usual Onsior. Having everything explained by a vet we trust, our fears are now not as great. it is very similar to vertigo an infection of the middle ear same as I have had. We wondered why Ginnie had gone off her food, including three different JWB varieties, the vet said buy some Chappie (instead of trying to sell me a £2 tin of food) and Les caught a couple of trout so she is now eating again. Her appetite hasn't recovered to it's full potential .....Cobi stands there hovering in anticipation !!!!!
Having read some of the symptons it seems to fit into place with how she has been behaving. Bless her.

Our Vet said you cannot tell if it will happen again it may or may not. All we can say is that Jazz became very clingy for a while, as it had knocked his confidence for a bit. He is now on Vivitolin and as this has the effect of increasing Oxygen supply to the blood he has become a big puppy again. Thank heavens no return of the symptoms. It took him a couple of weeks to get really steady on his pins again. Lets hope Ginnie keeps going from strength to strength as well.

So sorry to hear about your problem with Ginnie .I totally feel for you as this is what Ellie had earlier in the year.She is still on Vivitonin and is touch wood amazing.The vets couldn't believe how quickly she recovered.A stroke doesn't affect dogs long term like it can humans.So i hope you too have Ginnie back to normal soon

i do hope ginnie gets better quickly. it is a worrying time for all of us when our dogs are not well and my thoughts are with you

We know another Goldie lover here. Her dog had this Vestubular problem when he was 8 yrs old. He went on this Vivitonin and he lasted until he was 16 yrs old.
Which is a great comfort.

Thanks for all your good wishes.... a quick posting as I'm trying to catch up with 16 days washing !!! also watching Ginnie carefully, she doesn't come upstairs now but barks so I shoot downstairs to see if she is OK, only to find that she wants a helping hand under the bum to get onto the sofa.

The vet was spot on, she did get worse, we stayed at home on the Thursday night, she slept most of the day, and we got back down to the caravan Friday morning, at 6am Saturday, she couldn't stand up again, her eyes were wild, head on one side, Les sat on the caravan floor with her, and put vet beds around her so she couldn't injure herself, she was able to stand about 4 hours later, it's murder trying to get these tablets down, she has become very picky about what she eats, and we have become sneakier at trying to hide them in corned beef and numerous other things, and yet she will gladly accept her Onsior tablet at 8pm from our hand without any bother. Ginnie has now got into the habit of looking at Cobi and almost saying go on you try it first, so Cobi is now 'chief tester' of food before Ginnie will take anything from us...... she was only prescribed 4 of the Cerenia tablets..... we made sure that Cobi was no where near when these were wrapped up in cheese as they were £5 a tablet. This is the first morning without these tablets so I'm off now to see what happening downstairs, she has been outside for several 'piddles and poo'.

I can remember years ago being prescribed some tablets whilst trying to get my arthritis (rheumatoid) under control and they caused me to have this 'inner ear' problem to the extent of not even being able to move my head on the pillow without being sick, never mind trying to walk in a straight line.
