Hello,

I take my two Goldens up to the lakes to stay every year, sometimes twice or three times. I have just come back from a week up there as it happens. There are lots of cottage companies that cover the whole area. The largest is probably cumbrian cottages. There is also lakelovers and heart of the lakes. They do charge per pet per week, which does annoy me as I always make sure there is no trace of the dogs when we leave. Most have no restriction on numbers or size of dog, if they do it is usually for practical reasons. The biggest problem I find is finding an enclosed garden. Due to the types of properties some just don't really have gardens. Lots of hotels allow dogs too and you probably know already but there are welcome in all the shops and lots of pubs too.

Hope you find something suitable as my two love the place. :thumbleft

Hello everyone, at last the Kiernan household is getting back on an even keel. So sorry to hear that Candy and Ellie have been poorly, and do hope they are both well on the way to recovery. Our Gordon seemed to be unwell a few weeks ago, drinking incessantly, but after a few weeks of vet visits, and many blood tests everything has come back fine, probably just another case of a "neurotic mother"!!

Lenny we do have a cottage in the Lakes, it is part of an old hospital that has been redeveloped. It is in Meathop, with woodlands all round us. Meathop is very near to Grange over Sands, but does allow you to travel around the lakes in the day, and then return to a peacful home. The cottage has two bedrooms, one double en-suite, and a twin with main bathroom. It is an upside down house - the lounge and kitchen are upstairs, this allows you to see the many fantastic birds that we get feeding at the window - even had a woodpecker on the fat ball the other week! We do, of course, allow dogs at no extra charge. Also if anyone booking who comes via Jan or off the rescue website then Jan will get 10% of the holiday price for the rescue. Having said that we do get pretty booked up quite quickly, you can check the bookings at www.sykescottages.co.uk and put in property ref no 1632, it should come up as Tree Tops in Meathop. Please, if you want to book, come through to me personally as I do not charge as much, and the rescue will benefit. Mobile number 07899 916232.

Well now that's over and done with a quick update re: me. I had both my knees operated on 17 January this year. Cartilages removed from both of them. Finally I can say that things are going great. It has taken around 3 months from the op, but now am walking with one crutch only, and without that at times!! At last I can now enjoy taking our babies out for their walks, something I haven't been able to do since June 2010. Bob has been a star walking the dogs twice a day by himself.

Hope everyone on the site is keeping well, let's hope there will soon be some more sunshine to enjoy!! Carole xx :hello1:

Glad to hear that things are getting better, that must have been awful having to have both knees 'done' at the same time, can't imagine the pain you have been in since June 2010, so glad that you can manage to get out with Gordon and Cody. :love4 Lynda, Ginnie and Cobi xx
