Retriever Rescue

Hi everyone

On 10th May 2008 we travelled to Eccleston to collect Sam and bring him home. Over the last 4 months we have considered getting another dog to keep him company as he was used to living with other dogs. I mentioned this to Jan earlier this week who mentioned that she had a suitable dog looking for a new home. Lo and behold, yes you guessed it, we set off yesterday, Saturday 13th September 2008 to meet Rosie.

We fell in love the moment we saw her. She is a gorgeous 9 month old pale Retriever and is an absolute poppet! Wait until you see the photographs which I will upload later today. Sam thinks he has died and gone to heaven - well what male wouldn't?

Like a typical woman upon entering her new home she set about looking into every room to see if the accommodation was acceptable - even the bathrooms got an inspection. Let's face it ladies we all do it when we go on holiday!

She had a bit of a dodgy tummy last night - which was understandable and expected but once she got over this she slept with Sam and we never heard a murmur until this morning when we went downstairs.

She has full run of her new home and thoroughly enjoys it. She is wandering in and out of the back garden as it is such a lovely day. She loves to be fussed and Sam has got a new lease of life and was trying to play with her last night but she was shattered after the 2.5 hour journey home. He has obviously been missing his 4 legged companions.

Here's to the future and huge, huge thanks to Jan for giving us another retriever to love and cherish.

Thank you all so much for your good wishes. We went on our usual walk this morning and it took us twice as long - each time we met someone who we usually bump into we had to stop and introduce our new addition! Its hard to be humble when you have two dogs as gorgeous as Sam and Rosie.

Sam and Rosie have been in the garden with us for most of the afternoon as the weather was so nice. Result is two tired littled dogs chilling out in the sitting room.

Sam has started eating dried dog food again - previously he refused to eat anything that didn't come in a tin and was soaked with gravy. He took one look at Rosie thoroughly enjoying hers and decided that his dish was appetising too! Two clean dishes at breakfast and tea time.

Just prooves the point that sometimes all a man needs is a good woman and Rosie is obviously going to be the making of our Sam. He is going to be besotted with her - you should have seen him last night just watching her while she slept.

Love that second photograph of a happy smiley Sam, funny how it concentrates their mind on eating their dinner when you have two dogs.

What beautiful photos - firm friends already

We can't believe that we have only had Rosie just over 48 hours. She has just come in our home and fitted straight in with us and most importantly with Sam. Last night she started off in our bed nestled between Andy and I. However, she must have been missing Sam, who refuses to come upstairs no matter how much we cajole him, and went back to be with him in the sitting room. I do think, judging by the telltale white hairs on the chocolate leather sofas this morning that she had been having 40 winks in comfort!

Will keep you posted - no doubt Rosie will keep us all entertained in the future with her confidence and exuberance. Sam just looks on adoringly - he can't believe he has scored with the Britney Spears of the Golden Retriever World.
