Insurance
Jaspers insurance runs out in 2 weeks, I,m looking around for a new quote, but its so mind boggiling, some of them have a £ 100 excess, so don,t cover for recurring illness. So far the only time Jasper went to the vets was an ear infection, but the insurance didn,t cover it as the bill was under £ 75.
Mind you it still cost nearly £ 60 for a consultation and ear drops.
But then my friends Labrador ate a stone and the vets bill was over £ 1000. I don,t want to take a chance
Can anyone recommend good insurance cover?

Re: Insurance
Have a look at Tesco. I got a quote from them for our 2, it was very favourable. It was under £30.00 for both to be insured, with a £60.00 excess. Had 1 claim for Woody having a lump removed, Vet submitted the claim form and I got paid out approx. a month later.
Re: Insurance
Hi,
The last 2 years I have used Sainsbury's pet insurance. As well as being the cheapest and providing cover up to £7,500 they didn't dispute one penny of the bill sent to them after my precious Daisy died with a £8,100 bill to pay. They also paid the bill within days of receipt. This included a 100 mile round trip in an ambulance with a vet and nurse on board for an MRI scan, whilst she was on a ventilator. I cannot tell you how good it felt not to have to worry about the cost of treatment when she was so ill. To cover some of the shortfall I was also able to claim for the sum I paid for her as I had her from a pup. She was not a rescue dog.
While I hope and pray you are never in a similar situation I'm sure you would never want money to be a factor in providing the best treatment for your dog. They also provide continuous cover for any ongoing condition commencing after cover starts and you can get double nectar points and a discount for any second pet!
Helen.

Re: Insurance
hi, having spent all day looking at various insurance companies, some have high excess, some only cover up to a certain amount, some only pay once for a condition, I decided on esure, I just hope that I never have to use it.

Solo has been with sainsburys since we have had him which is 8 years the only thing is every year it goes up and up... he has a a monthly tub of easy flex chews which i know are expensive and i know covers the amount i pay but i am dreading what it is going to go up to the next time in august i am paying 47 pounds a month now and am expecting it to hit the 50 + mark.. i dont know much about insurance and i do know i would always always insure.. i think it went up when i started having the easy flex chews...

Re: Insurance
We pay £49 per month for Sam with PetPlan. Three years ago, we had to pay out £600 in one day just for scans and blood tests, and I got a cheque from PetPlan one week later.
Very satisfied with them.

Re: Insurance
Should have mentioned that that payment was for Meg, our previous Golden. Sam, who we have had for three years, is, and has been in good health, touch wood. But one never knows what tomorrow brings!
Re: Insurance
Absolutely we have Petplan as our Vet said he found them best at paying out on claims.
Find it quite amazing that they will insure a rescue dog with no history to look at.
They have been a godsend over the years can't fault them

Re: Insurance
Hi, I have heard that Petplan is one of the best, but as always it comes down to money, they wanted £40 a month, but my budget is £ 24 a month.
My friends dog got run over( not a goldie ), he ran after a cat, the bill was about £ 7,000 and she wasn,t insured, she had to pay by credit card.
I do wonder if there was no such thing as pet insurance if vets would be cheaper.

Re: Insurance
I know Lynn looks really upsetting.Feeling very sad today came across a cat that had just been run over.It had just passed away bless it.Moved it to the side of the road with a little prayer(although i am not religious)seemed the right thing to do .

Re: Insurance
Ahh, its a horrible thing to witness, I,ve seen 2 cats run over ( on separate occasions) , i always jump out the car, but unfortunately its too late. then I always drive home in tears. Last time my 9yrs daughter was with me, she was ever so upset.

Re: Insurance
Be very careful remember you get what you pay for, look to see what the insurance company cover some only go up to £2k and we all know that is nothing mine are insured with Sainsburys up to £7500 worth of treatment they also cover for hydrotheripy, prescription food etc, also ask your vet who they may recommend most vets will work with Pet Plan which is the most common but the vets have to fill out the claim forms and every ins company asks different questions, I was with M&S and had to make a claim for Paddy they wanted to know everything before they paid out and then they were not quick at that.!
E&L not heard good reports, or Direct Line, or sadly Tesco, but heard good reports from More Than, Pet Plan,Pet Protect, Sainsburys. Each case is individual you have to really go for what is best for you...

Re: Insurance
Look around how old is Solo, I have to admit I have changed 3 times you dont have to stay with your present insurer, again I always ask dog friends and vets...I think they are all putting up their premiums its something we cant get away from..hope wrote:Solo has been with sainsburys since we have had him which is 8 years the only thing is every year it goes up and up... he has a a monthly tub of easy flex chews which i know are expensive and i know covers the amount i pay but i am dreading what it is going to go up to the next time in august i am paying 47 pounds a month now and am expecting it to hit the 50 + mark.. i dont know much about insurance and i do know i would always always insure.. i think it went up when i started having the easy flex chews...

Re: Insurance
Another point to watch is that some insurers only cover a dog until it is 10 years old, but our cover with Pet Plan is for the extent of the dog's life. Yes, like many others, it does go up each year. I seem to remember David saying that the monthly premium for Sam is more than the insurance on both our cars!!
Watched the programme about vets the other night. We were in Wales, camping on a working farm, where reception is quite poor, but David struggled and struggled and eventually we managed to get the programme. There was a lot of food for thought in that programme, and I have to say that where we take Sam, so far only for his boosters, our vets are great. The practice has been a registered Veterinary Hospital for many years, and the vets and all the staff do seem dedicated to doing what they can for the animals. They are not particularly cheap, but I do feel that they are very good.
