Games!

Post by Charlie's Angel »

We are trying to think of some new things to do with Charlie to keep him stimulated but also to burn off the excess energy!!!

We are thinking of setting up a mini agility course and teaching him that. What does everyone else do to wear out their dogs? Charlie isn't settling down in the evenings and relaxing so we need to start increasing how long his walks are, bearing in mind he is still only a pup.

How long does everyone walk their dogs for but also what other games and things do you do with them to burn off energy?

Easy answer... but may not be practical.... get two goldens... and then they wear each other out, BUT you will have a permanent inch of dust on your TV, and furniture, all the toys will be emptied from the basket and strewn all over the room, and trashed, twice as many 'golden hairs wafting' everywhere, :1944:
which in our view equals twice as much enjoyment.

We had 3 goldens here last night for 6 hrs, and having spoken to my friend this morning, she said she had to wake her 3yr old up !!
Cobi and Ginnie were also wopped out.

No fair! I struggle to get mine to sleep! Theres never any chance of us watching a film in peace in the evening.. :2029:

We took Charlie to Bradgate Country Park today. There's nots of people and dogs so good for socialising. We walked for about 2 hours. When we got home he slept for about half an hour and then back to normal. I then end up playing fetch for the whole night and he STILL doesn't sleep and chill out! I knew they had endless energy but this is silly!

I think you should stop playing with him unless you instigate the play. You are making him like he is. A golden is usually asleep if there is nothing going on. He will soon get the message. If you play chasing and running then you have a fit dog with no brain. Make him use his brains that will tire him out more. There is no need to continually play with a dog. While you will play so will he.

I've really made a rod for my own back there then! :2005:

Will have to start rationing playtime i think. I just automatically started playing more and doing more things with him the more energy he seemed to get to burn some of the energy off. Wrong again!!! :2009: What a numpty!
