Goldens with the Girl!!!

Post by Samsmum »

I have just read this in this morning's paper:
RETRIEVER'S GOLDEN TOUCH WINS THE GIRL.
A dog really is man's best friend - when it comes to chatting up the girls. Having a pet on a lead when he goes out for a walk is a bachelor's best ploy to get an attractive woman to come up and start talking to him, researchers have found.
Golden retrievers are the best to encourage flirting. Three-quarters of the women questioned in a survey said they would be happy to speak to a man walking one of the friendly-looking dogs. Next favourites were sheepdogs and Yorkshire terriers.
"Men who own a pet dog, as long as it's the right kind, are seen as caring, loving and trustworthy," said a spokesman for German dating agency Amio which ran the survey.

Are they trying to teach our grandmothers to suck eggs, I wonder. Comments please.
Best wishes to you all - Samsmum (Joyce).

Makes you wonder whether these girls are falling for the man who owns the dog......OR......the dog! I wonder how the lads feel playing second fiddle to their own dog in a love triangle?

I'm not sure it's the best dating tactic for me. When I walk Molly, I am constantly stopping to let people say "hello to the beautiful doggie". Most of them are elderly ladies and I've never been propositioned by a single one of them!

Do you know Joyce, that article could very well be right.
Whenever my husband comes back from walking Ella, the conversation nearly always starts........".I was talking to this woman this morning/afternoon" :2063:

I will have to apply the same rule Lynn :1960:

Joyce,
you are right about dogs being the centre of attention and attracting men and women. It was the man that was attracted to dogs in my case...... in 1982 my boyfriend and myself visited my parents who then lived in the Worcestershire countryside for the weekend.... and he fell in love with Jade (18months) and Gemma (5yrs) Mum's 2 golden retrievers. I didn't get a look in.... Jade was always the centre of attention, and when we got married in 1983, Mum's dogs were 'borrowed' on a frequent basis until we got our own golden Ceili.
I now look at an 'upside down' Cobi draped across my Hubby's lap with her head on his shoulder, and think that nothing has changed since he first met my Mum's dogs all those years ago. Good job I'm not the jealous kind :love4 :love4 :love4

Ellie is lovely, and no wonder she attracts lots of attention.
I have just been wondering how many bachelors are now out looking for a Golden in order to attract the attention of the girls they fancy. There could be a sudden demand for Goldens. It would be lovely if they would adopt a Golden, but only, of course, if they are suitable people.
I shall have to keep an eye on David now - it hadn't occurred to me before! But we have been married for 45 years, so I think he is quite settled!!
Best wishes to you all - Samsmum (Joyce)

lovely pictures of beautiful Ellie. She is so like my Tessa..

I am not going to get involved in all this talk about attracting the opposite sex. I obviously haven't been walking in the right places as all I meet are the old rebrobates I see every day. Jealousy is not a good look.

Thanks Jan maybe they are related?Ellie came to us at 3 from a friend escaping
an abusive marriage.HE used to hold her down an kick her to get a reaction from
my friend can you believe it!Thankfully long gone and my friend settled now.
Couldn't bear for her not to be able to see Ellie again so we took her in making
it three.Holly,Bosun and Ellie. She has seen us lose 3 of our wonderful dogs and
is the sweetest gentliest girl i have ever come across. Not a bad bone in her body
and so trusting. With Sam gone there is nobody to bark and alert me to people
coming to the house and i get quite a fright sometimes as we are quite remote here.
The other day Ellie was sunbathing with the front door open and i heard someone calling out
hello and there was my Next lady with a parcel and Ellie standing behind her tail wagging
furiously. She doesn't even bark bless her-Ellie not the Next lady.Only for food-typical golden!
Join the club Jan i don't seem to have any luck either. Its mostly the other way around i think.
Men with retrievers instantly more interesting!
Hugs to Tessa and yourself of course :2035:

Poor Ellie and your friend :2005:
Thankfully they had you to help.
Ellie certainly seems to have found her niche with you both.
Happy ending thank goodness. Loved her photos.

Lovely photographs of a happy Ellie.... she looks so similar to our Ginnie in this photo...

I can can feel the 'red mist' coming down when I read that ' a dog was kicked to provoke a reaction'......I would have been 'inside for manslaugher' if I'd have lived with someone who mistreated a dog.... :2011: :2011:
Thankfully (probably for him, more so than me) I have never seen my sisters ex husband who mistreated her and her golden retriever Jasmine. Jasmine came to live her final years with us when my sister couldn't keep her, so we had 3 goldens to love. :love4

Anyone who kicks a dog for reaction or for anything else, should have a darn good kicking themselves. My feet are itching right now at the thoughts of it!! Sorry but I am not very civil when it comes to things like that, and I am sure all you Golden owners feel the same.
I can get quite upset thinking how our Sam might have been treated for him to be so afraid of men, afraid of eating from his dish and so obedient. He was only 11 months when Jan let us have him, and it is awful to think how he may have been treated.
Glad to say he gradually became a people dog, although he barks at everyone who comes in, and gives them a growl for good measure, but he loves everybody now.
I remember a few years ago, when we first moved to our present house, I took our previous Golden, Meg, for a walk and as we were going along a pavement, a man on a pushbike silently cut across in front of us and Meg nearly did me a mischief, dragging me half across the road. However, the man, who was going into his driveway, came and apologised and Meg, the big soft thing, instantly forgave him, and was all over him like a rash, and I got an invitation to call any time and have a coffee with him!!! He was in his forties and tall dark and handsome, and I was well in my 60's; needless to say I didn't take up the invitation and I have never encountered him since. You just never know!!
Hope you are all enjoying the lovely sunshine, and haven't missed a holiday due to the volcano dust.
Best wishes - Samsmum (Joyce).

I take my goldie out and i have lots of other men dog walkers stop and talk to me, quite often they even walk with me. And before you ask I am married with kids. I think other dog walkers when they see a goldie they trust the dog, and my dog is so friendly he will run up to strangers and lean on them, sit on there feet, and even roll onto his back anything for attention, also he never growls at there dog just wags his tail at them, and plays chase.

my mum is on her own at the moment maybe she should walk the dog, she might meet a nice man.

Love the weather no more muddy floors, doors wide open no more stinky doggy smell yeahhh
