Have just been watching the News. There was some filmimg of the new Royal Navy Submarine, Astute. At the side of the name plate was another plaque which looked like a working type Golden Retriever with a pheasant in it's mouth. Did anyone else see it ?
Hope everyone looking forward to tomorrows funday, we definately are. See you all there.
You are right Lynn . When the vessel was launched at Barrow,
you could see the badge with the Golden Retriever on.
See you at the fun day. Dont forget cloth.

Syd,
Have you any idea as to why the Golden Emblem is used?
Can't remember having seen a dog of that name, although
the actual picture is ringing a bell.

Syd is still trying to find out the reason for the golden on the badge.
He did see that when the Dutchess of Cornwall launched the sub she was given a golden retriever puppy which she gave to be trained as a guide dog
Found the report of the launching of the Astute on the internet, but it just said that the Duchess of Cornwall was presented with a Retriever Puppy similar to the one on the Astute's badge, and that it would be passed on to Guide Dogs for the blind for training, but it gives no reason why the Retriever was chosen to be on the badge. Very strange.
Samsmum.
