Has everybody emigrated.

Post by lenny »

Thought I would start a couple of threads as Im missing my golden chatter fix.
1st does any one know any accommodation in the lakes that will allow two goldens, we went for a day out on monday to Bowness, without the dogs and fancy taking them next time for a mid week or weekend break. Has no one got any photos of their goldens enjoying the good weather we have been having. Surprised no comments on the royal wedding good or bad.I thought Kate looked stunning, and so did her sister, I believe there is now a Pippa ass appreciation society I may join it. Last but not least , I have booked my holidays for the rest of the year, the first day I booked off was the rescue day 2011, hope youve started the ball rolling Jan Im looking forward to it already. Please reply just to cheer me up. :blue: :thumbleft

Hi Lenny,
We've been away for 10 days, came home to a somewhat quiet site. Like you, thinking everyone emigrated due to the superb weather we have been having.
Yes we watched the wedding, wonderful. What a stunning bride Kate made, a picture, and so happy with Wills. Let's wish them all the luck in the world.
Our hols are booked up too, away again next week to Derbyshire, somewhere we have never been, so looking forward to that.
On somewhere to stay in the Lakes, we went to a lovely cottage at Coniston a few years back, took both dogs. Try the search engine for holiday lets, Coniston. The one we stayed at was called the Old Bakehouse.

Hi Everybody!
We are back home again too! Easter weekend we took the caravan to the farm at Rhos-on-Sea. The weather was lovely. Sam swam in the sea at Penrhyn Bay and smelt to high heaven; good job we were coming home next day as a jolly good shampoo was needed!!
The people at the farm said we could leave the caravan on the site for 3 nights for a very nominal sum, so we returned there last Thursday for the Victorian Weekend at Llandudno. Again we had lovely weather, although quite breezy. When I unpacked my clothes, I discovered I had not packed a coat, jacket, anorak or anything!! Silly me! Fortunately with a cardy and a denim jacket, I was O.K. It was only when we went out with Sam at night that I needed the extra to keep the cold out., I was so lucky it didn't pour down!
On Saturday we went into town to watch the parade, but we could not find a parking space within walking distance of Bodafon field where each year there is a huge display of vintage and veteran vehicles, so we had to give it a miss. The parade was lovely with lots of people in Victorian costume, and all the beautiful steam engines from all over the country.
Sunday we went to Llanwrst, and Sam swam in the river along with a small Golden Cocker Spaniel. They had a whale of a time, and soon dried out afterwards.
Came back feeling very relaxed and already thinking about the next trip.
Alas! Today was a work day, as is tomorrow, and some of Monday's work has spilled out into Thursday and Friday. So roll on the next break!
David has made me a lovely herb garden, about 6'6" by 20" and over a foot deep. It is quite high on legs as we get an awful lot of slugs and snails around here, and in the past I have seen loads of herbs disappear overnight in ground level containers. I brought a load of herb plants and put them in, and now look forward to the harvest.
Hope you and your beautiful Goldens are all enjoying the sunshine and feeling the better for it.
Wishing you all well. (No, Lenny, we haven't all emigrated!!) and look forward to meeting up again at the Fun Day.

Still here Lenny!Getting ready for a break with the chaps in the Cotswolds.
Thought Kate looked fabulous and felt very proud to be British too.
Quite emotional.Sat up in bed watching it at 8.00 with the sound off so Andy
would get a lie in.Couldn't drag myself away from the screen.Thought the Aston Martin
was brilliant. They really did look besotted with each other.Love to see.
Hope the press leaves them alone now.
Just wondering where in Derbyshire you are visiting Lynn?
love to all

Hi Diane,

We're going to a Caravan Club Site at Grinlow, near Buxton I think. Have always wanted to go there, but never have. So looking forward to it.
Can't beat the holiday season can we? So very much to look forward to, and the weather we are having makes it so much better, no muddy dogs and humans.
Wishing you all a lovely summer.
Lenny, the cottage that we went to in Coniston was great for us and the dogs. Quite spacious, warm and quiet. A fantastic base for us, a lovely walk to Coniston along the old railway line, thanks Dr. Beeching! Also great for the dogs in the lake.

The Royal Wedding was lovely, wasn't it, and it seemed to have a more informal, family feel than most such occasions. We watched it in the caravan. I think it gave us a bit of "feel-good" factor in the midst of all the turmoil in the world - a bit of a tonic - and we need this don't we? The dresses were beautiful, but I think some of the guests' outfits were a bit "over-the-top". Nevertheless, it was a joyous occasion.
Best wishes - Samsmum. :love6:

Ive been at my static caravan in ayrshire, got back monday night. Been in the garden working hard pruning bushes, weeding. In fact ive six bags to put out for a garden pick up from the council. Gordon thinks he's got it bad having to take them out to the kerb tonight. I'm the one that's been out grafting. We watched the royal wedding Kate looked so elegant, regal. She was very natural and looked at ease.William looked more serious but then I would imagine he was thinking of his Mum.
I would like to see some pictures of other peoples goldens in the nice weather.

Meet two retrievers at the weekend in the park where we used to take Katie. It has a lovely big pond with lots of beautiful rhododendrons. One was called co-co and the other was monty.
Got to stroke them and have a chat.

HI, I wondered about that too Lenny It has been so quiet on here. Just to let you know that Gordon's mum & dad have a lovely cottage in the Lakes that they rent out if you were interested. Of course very dog friendly.

I sat in front of the T V all day Friday and wept all the way through it. My family know what I am like so kept ringing me up to see if I was O K. I thoroughly enjoyed it all. But as you say some of the outfits were O.T.T. and the hats. What is that all about stuck on your forehead Crackers. :1960

Oh Jan you're as bad as me!x :love4
I used to live near Grinlow Lynn there's a great folly called Solomons Temple
there's a great view from it.You might enjoy the Goyt valley too which is very near Buxton and beautiful.Chatsworth too of course (great for dog walking)and Bakewell.Buxton has a Marks and Sparks and Waitrose so you will have some nice places to shop. The Cavendish Arcade near the Crescent has some really nice shops. There is a village near us called Combs which has a nice pub called the Beehive which although you can't take dogs into there are some good seating outside if the weather is good.We are always walking Monty and Ellie in Combs its really beautiful.
Just outside Buxton is the Tissington trail which was an old railway line which is also lovely to walk along. We have some friends who own a lovely florist with a cafe called the Green Pavillion which makes lovely home made food which is on Terrace Rd in Buxton near the centre.
The Manifold Valley near Longnor is another beauty spot.Another good pub with outside seating is the Lamb Inn on Hayfield road between Hayfield and Chapel-en-le-frith ,where we are. Some nice walking around the edges of Chapel but the town itself is a disappointment. If you have any questions about the area just let me know hope i've been a help.Have a great time we are getting ready to go to a cottage all on one level in the cotswolds.I hope Ellie is going to be ok.How is Willow getting on?

Thankyou for all the info. Diane. We are quite excited about going down there, as I said, we have always wanted to go to the Derbyshire Dales as people have told us it is beautiful.
Willow seems to be on the right side of things at present, been a long haul getting there, and so worried initially about her. Having lost 2 to bone cancer, it was certainly a fraught time till diagnosis.
Whilst we were away, we had so many people come up to the dogs to say hello, only to be told they had recently lost their Golden. Quite a few tears were shed. We did go to visit Jenny and Barry that have 2 of Jans, Daisy and Dougal, both looked lovely, the dogs that is!!! Daisy is so like Willow, Dougal is the elderly statesman, he's lost his hearing now but a wonderful oldie. What a wonderful life they have with their mum and dad. Every year they go to the caravan at Easter and stay till the end of season, in the most chocolate box village. Ooh, roll on retirement.
Can't get enough of the "wedding". Have to watch all the footage over and over again, what a stunning girl. When I saw the dress it was beautiful, so Grace Kelly. But those hats!!!!!What a good looking family the Middletons, and Pippa, the image of Kate. Just hope the couple are left alone by the media to get on with their lives in relative privacy.

Hello everyone, still here but have had a worrying time with poor Candy, she became very ill last Sunday .Could not keep anything down. Even water came back up.
Any way we got the emergency vet out to her and began re hydrating her with electrolytes through a syring.
Slowly she began to come round . Tuesday she was at the vets again for medicine and anti biotics and blood tests. Yesterday urine tests ,however we were relieved to find last night that she began eating again. Today she is very much brighter , even climbed the stairs to wake us up this morning. She has been to the vets again today and we await more results of blood test.
Jazz feels she is getting far too much attention, especially going out in the car without him
