Hi only recently joined,on monday Feb 28th my golden Brandy passed away after 12.5 years it was a massive shock and i will never ever get over it,he was more than a pet he was my best friend. My mother was walking him for his usual afternoon stroll as he was getting older and slower we had cut them down to 2 a day, towards the end of the walk he collapsed and violently vomited and could not move,my mother was so distraught she called for help from neighbours who came to her aid and helped her carry him into the house where he lay still with us as she telephoned me to come home and the vets.I got home as quickly as i could in what felt like an eternity convinced he had passed only to find he was still alive. To cut a long story short i soon realised that i may have to make the hardest decision of my life, the vet confirmed that his coordination had gone he did not know were his legs where, glazed eyes and very weak heart and was incredibly honest in saying that in her opinion they could carry out all the tests and treatments but there would be no guarantees that it would work, she knew as did i that was it,there is no way was i going to let him suffer even though i would do anything for him.He looked at me as if to say let me go master.I thank god for allowing me to be there as he passed in my arms, there is a massive vaccum now but i know he is still with me and always will be.I have all his toys lead etc even hair recovered from a brush to hold.It is to early yet to make a decision about getting another Golden and it can only be a Golden and not to replace him but to own again the most special of breeds and one with its own character and not to compare with Brandy in anyway but to be themselves...iam sure i will make that choice.

So very sad to read your post, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and yours. Never an easy time when you have to make that decision to let your friend go, it is the worst but kindest act. Given time you will look back and remember the happy times you had together, but the sadness and longing never seem very far away. It's all part of having loved your pal.
What a wonderful photo of Brandy, he looked to be enjoying his time in the snow, one to cherish.
We all know on here, the feelings you will be going through, so you are not alone in your anguish.
Take Care, and remember your lovely boy with pride, you will be in so many peoples thoughts I'm sure.
What a handsome boy.... and thankfully lots of lovely photographs of him for you to treasure, (we have photographs of all our goldens throughout the house and when we go caravanning) sadly on this website we all know how you are feeling, we still miss every dog we have ever owned, and eventually you remember the little things that they did that made you smile and say 'do you remember when?.... about the antics they got up to, and if you do have another 'golden pal' in the future you find that they become a distraction for your grief.
Lynda
Such a handsome boy and so very sorry to hear of your loss.
I had to make that difficult decision last August. One thing my vet said, which was a comfort in the days that followed, was that it was the last act of love and kindness to Honey, even though it broke our hearts to say goodbye. I still have not put Honey on Rainbow Bridge, I have written her page so many times but it's never quite right.
You will know when it is right for you to welcome another golden. I now have Ruby who is very different to Honey was in both looks and character. She hasn't replaced Honey, just opened up another part of our hearts that will always be her own.
So sorry to hear of your tragic loss of Brandy, most of us on here, know the pain you are now suffering. I do hope that time will heal your sadness. The picture of Brandy is stunning.Goldens are a special breed, once you have had one to love, no other breed will do, but we are biased. I do hope in time you share your life with another golden, When we lost our first boy things did not feel right, now we have two more as part of our family and we wouldn't want it any other way. We all send our love.
So very sorry for your loss.Everyone here was such a support for me last year when i lost dear Sam.If you need to talk i am here for you.It must be of comfort that Brandy held on to say goodbye to you.The bond between a golden and their owner is like no other. They steal your heart don't they.I hope the time will come when you are ready to make another friend. My heart goes out to you.We are all here for you
with love Diane
Hello Brandy,
So sorry to hear of your sudden loss. It does take time to recover, but you will know when it is time to give your love to another beautiful golden. They are such wonderful dogs, friends, companions, and part of the family, and it is a terrible blow when we lose them.
Thinking about you and wishing you well.
Samsmum (Joyce).
I'm so very sorry for your sad loss of Brandy. What a beautiful friend you have lost. How very hard it is for us to let them go, but you were with him as he went to sleep in peace.
As time goes on, your sadness will ease and happy memories will remain in your heart.
