My Poor Brad

Post by sonia »

We learnt yesterday that Brad has a mast cell tumor in his nasal passage :( naturally we are devastated and out of our mind with worry. Its started way back in March when he started sneezing a pinkish mucus, took him the vets and they gave him antibiotics for a respiratory infection.

A week ago he had a nose bleed so off to the vets we went, they took him in for exploratory where he discovered what he thought was polyps. The vet referred us to the Liverpool university for small animals which has a very good reputation, where they discovered the mast cell tumor. They have taken a Biopsy and we have to await the results as to where we go from here. They kept him in last night as the nose was still bleeding and they wanted to keep an eye on him, hoping he can come home today.

Poor Ella is really missing him :( she is looking out of the window all the time. I am trying to remain positive and hope there is something they can do that won't cost us a small fortune. We have standard pet insurance with Tesco that covers us for £2500, but the bill has come to £1500 already and that's with out any treatment :(

Oh dear Sonia, so very sorry to hear of Brads troubles. Hope all goes well for him. Poor Ella, she sounds to be missing her friend, he's always been there for her.
Fingers are crossed, let's know what happens.

Lynn thank you :) Brad now home so Ella is a happy girl again.
I think he is in pain as he keeps crying, so have given him his Med's to ease it.
We now have to wait for the results of the biopsy, so its waiting game at the minute.

Thank you for all your kind words of support, its been a tough few days trying to come to terms with things.
The mast cell is on the inside of his nose making breathing difficult through that nostril, there is no chance of them operating on it because of where it is. We just have to wait and see what grade this tumour is as to what is best for Brad :(

Ella is still out of sorts she knows Brad isn't right she hasn't attempted to beat him up since he has come home, she is very quiet and follows me everywhere.

We are supposed to be going away the end of Sept to Tenerife, our son was coming home to look after them but think he can go on the holiday instead.

Lynn we are still awaiting news of the biopsy. I don't understand why it is taking so long. Brad seems fine in himself which is good, think we will just take each day as it comes, as long as he is in no pain.
Will let you know if we hear anything more. Thanks for asking x
