golden attacked

Post by milo's mum »

we have a pet supplies market stall and today we were at the market at beeston castle. we took the kids with us and we were all standing there going oohh and aaahhhh at this absolutely gorgeous 2 year old golden as he was walking past our stall with a lady and i would say her young teenage son. he'd just gone past us and got to the burger van when these two people with a bull dog type of dog were passing them. as they met we heard a lot of yelling a dog crying and then the goldens owners were in tears. the bulldog had had it around the throat and everyone was trying to separate them and their leads had twisted around each other. steve went over to see if everyting was ok and some other passers by were telling the bulldog owners to leave the market. a lot of effing and jeffing later from bullbog owner (after which he threatened to punch teenage owner -who was autistic i might add) he did not leave but did get threatened himself by a nice man who was definately big enough to hurt him, they walked away but kept looking in a very aggressive manner. steve gave the golden a sausage and luckily he was ok. the other dog had only managed to grab the folds of skin under the throat and hadn't actually broke the skin. he had calmed down enough to play with a toy somebody else had given him and enjoyed a tummy rub from steve too.
the most shocking thing in all of this is that it was not a young couple who had the bulldog. the lady must have been at least in her 60's and the man i would have guessed to have been her son and in his 40's. she walked with a cane and was the one walking the dog and her son couldn't walk that well either. how either of them hope to control such a big powerful dog is beyond us. we've managed to calm down ourselves (our hearts were in our throats) but it just goes to show it's not just the chavs we have to watch out for now the idiot owners are getting older.

How awful for you all that had to witness that. For future reference, in a dog fight, don't go in with your hands, use a foot to aim at the other dogs nether regions, they'll soon let go!!!!Advice from a friend at a show many years ago. It works.
Annoying that the owners were so bolshy, thankfully the Golden o.k. Nasty dog and nasty owners spring to mind. :2011: It really turns your stomach to see this happen, poor little lad, at least he got a nice new toy to take his mind off things.

What an awful experience. Thank goodness the Golden was O.K. People, whatever age, should be more careful about taking dogs with aggressive tendencies in public places. They should definitely get a muzzle for it. It is not very nice I know, but next time it could attack a person and then what!!

I agree with you about the muzzle. like i said the owners could barely walk properly without having an 8 stone dog dragging them either. and we said at the time a dog today a child tomorrow. i wonder if they will defend their dog then. the most aggravating thing for me was their age. i expect behaviour like that from an 18 year old chav with his pit bull cross, not people in their 40's and 60's. the bloke did get more then he bargained for though. like i said in the original post he was threatened by somebody big enough to hurt him. when he threatened the teenage lad this great bloke actually started to take his coat off and said if you want to hit somebody try me and the idiot backed down then, said he didn't want a fight. funny that isn't it. i don't think we will be going back to this market anyway, it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth after seeing things like that.
i do know that the rescuer so to speak put in a complaint to the market management but i don't know what was done about it. Banks' car boot actually banned dogs the other year because of a similar incident to this.

So saddening isn't it.I really feel for you having to experience such thuggery.
I'm afraid there are so many unfit dog owners out there.Next door to us is rented
out and they have two jack russells ,who are doing their business all over our gardenThey have to jump quite a high fence to get into our property too,.I have told them in a friendly way that they are always in our garden when they are out too and that the local farmer WILL shoot stray dogs. This happened to another neighbour who lost two and was warned!!It makes my blood boil.A lovely little tan terrier came to our gate the other day and i phoned the owner from the dogs tag and would you believe it these same neighbours were supposed to be looking after it for them while they were on holiday!.If i hadn't taken it in until the neighbours got home it would have been long gone.If dear Sam were still with us he would be in pieces as terrified of all dogs.I'm afraid i would have been right round their house straight away
Anyway i have started throwing their dogs business back onto their driveway they'll soon stop-me hopes!!Hee Hee

good for you throwing poo back on their drive. some people just do not want to pick it up. we had a pet shop in southport until recently and we sold twice as many poo bags when the council put signs on the footpaths to remind people that there was a £1000 fine if you did not clean up after your dog. you will have to keep us informed on the poogate situation it made me giggle at your antics. next week there will probably be a new post on here with the title OWNERS FIGHT BACK, because i'm sure there are plenty of stories like ours.

How awful dogs like that should be muzzled. There is a white bull terrier near us that the owner has no control over, all the children are terrified of it. The stupid guy has no control over it.
I am so glad the poor dog was ok after the attack x

Sadly nasty dogs and owners come in all shapes and sizes. I was walking past a group of people with my Jazz last year. There was a springer spaniel with them and all of a sudden it shot out from between the people and nipped Jazz on the side, such that she squealed. Thankfully she was OK, again no skin broken, but the people with the dog couldn't care less. It was on a lead, as was Jazz. Thankfully she is very calm and laid back so I think it affected me more than her, but I was fuming. Its no wonder the minority of bad owners tar us good ones with a bad name. I really think we should go back to dog licences, make micro chipping compulsory and hopefully then owners accountable for their dogs. Some people may think twice about owning a dog then.

Do you really think that a dog licence or microchipping will solve any of these problems ? It will just be the reponsible paying yet again for the irresponsible. as ever.

'fraid I agree with you Jan, it's never the honest and responsible people that need targetting. As in all walks of life, there's the small minority that the rules and regs. don't matter to them.

It makes me really cross to hear stories like this and it's time something was done but how I don't know the answer. A muzzle should be used on dogs like that.

When I take Bonnie out for a walk in our local neighbourhood I have to be careful as there are two yorkshire terriers that go balistic when they see us approaching. They go mad and race around barking and growling and the first time I walked Bonnie past their garden (it is fenced thankfully) Bonnie almost pulled me over trying to get away - she is more afraid of the small dogs than say the spaniels or collie type dogs, even the german shepherds she doesn't mind but she is very fearful of little terriers. :2007:
